FRUITY HOT CEREAL

A delicious and nutrition-packed start to your day.

SERVES 4

3 cups lowfat milk or soymilk

¼ cup honey

¼ cup diced dried apricots

¼ cup raisins

1 medium apple, seeded and diced

1 cup sunflower seeds or nuts

dash of salt

Heat milk gently over medium heat until it simmers, without letting it boil. (A heat deflector ring under the pot is helpful.) Add fruits, nuts, honey, and salt. Stir to dissolve the honey.

1 cup bulghar wheat

Add bulghar to milk; stir. Simmer, covered, for 10 minutes over low heat, stirring occasionally. Uncover and cook 5 more minutes until the bulghar is tender and liquid is fully absorbed. Serve hot with a spoonful of butter, yogurt, honey, or jam.
