I used to ask my family what I should make for dinner and got the response, “I dunno!” So one night I invented this dish. Now when I ask, everyone says “I want ‘I Dunno’ for dinner!”
2 lbs. ground beef
1 T. margarine
15-oz. can tomato sauce
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 t. sugar
1 t. salt
1 t. pepper
8-oz. pkg. cream cheese, softened
8-oz. container sour cream
3/4 c. green onion, sliced
3 c. fettuccine pasta, uncooked
1 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
Garnish: paprika
Brown ground beef in margarine in a skillet; drain. Add tomato sauce, garlic, sugar, salt and pepper; reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes. In a medium bowl, beat cream cheese with a fork until fluffy; stir in sour cream and onion. Set aside. Cook fettuccine according to package instructions. Layer ingredients as follows in a greased 13"x9" baking pan: beef mixture, cooked fettuccine, cream cheese mixture, Cheddar cheese. Sprinkle with paprika; bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes, or until bubbly. Serves 6 to 8.
Toss prepared pasta with a little olive oil then set aside to keep warm. When it’s time to add the pasta to a favorite casserole recipe, you’ll find the oil has kept the pasta from sticking together.
