Fame can make anyone a little nutty, even Canadian teen dream Justin Bieber.
MONKEY BUSINESS
In March 2013, Bieber’s pet capuchin monkey, Mally, was held up by German customs officials when Bieber entered the country during his European tour.
Bieber had neglected to bring the necessary health documents for his pet. Mally was cared for by an animal shelter and later was given a home at a German zoo, where she still made her home as Weird Canada went to press.
SPEAKING FRANKLY
In Amsterdam Bieber visited the Anne Frank House. Bieber wrote this in the guestbook: “Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a Belieber.” (A “Belieber” is, of course, a devoted Justin Bieber fan.)
MASKED MAN
To avoid the paparazzi in 2012, he donned a metallic gold mask in Venice Beach, California. It didn’t work. In 2013, while in London, he put on a gas mask. Needless to say, a guy strolling the streets in a gas mask will usually draw attention, not divert it.
URINE TROUBLE
In July 2013 TMZ released video of Bieber peeing in a janitor’s mop bucket as he and a posse of obnoxious friends left a New York City night club through the back. The same clip also caught the celebrity inexplicably cursing out a photograph of former U.S. President Bill Clinton.
A few days after, Bieber called the former president and apologized. Mr. Clinton graciously accepted.
