LEGAL IN CANADA

Liberty reigns in Canada…as long as we’re talking chocolate and hormones.

FREEDOM!

While some Americans would have you believe that the liberties of American life are simply unparalleled compared with the restrictive society found in Canada, there are actually quite a few things that are totally legal in Canada that have been outlawed in the U.S.

KINDER SURPRISE EGGS

These chocolate eggs which originated in Italy contain tiny toys inside. Which is exactly why they have never been allowed in the U.S.—the small toys are considered choking hazards for children younger than three. Canadians, on the other hand, don’t think they’re really for kids younger than three, in part because the packaging would be hard for a toddler to open. As a result, the Kinder Eggs have been available in Canada since the 1970s, and remain a popular holiday treat.

HUMAN GROWTH HORMONE

In Canada, doctors are free to prescribe HGH or various uses, including to help athletic performance or for anti-aging purposes. And off-label prescriptions are widely used, legally in the U.S. For instance, a blood-pressure medication may be prescribed for headaches. But importing HGH into the U.S. is illegal, as is prescribing the drug for off-label uses.

THINGS MADE IN CUBA

Dating back to a trade embargo imposed on Cuba around the time of Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, tobacco products, including cigars, cannot legally be imported into the U.S.. Americans who buy, sell, or trade Cuban cigars face fines of up to $55,000, as well as prison time. But if you’re so inclined, smoke up, Canada: the country never nearly went to war with the tiny Communist nation, so it’s perfectly legal to import Cuban cigars.
