Author’s Note

AFTER YEARS OF ACADEMIC writing, I decided to turn my hand to the kind of tale I read for fun: historical romance. Julia and James’s story was the first romance manuscript I ever wrote. The manuscript went through many revisions, since I learned as I went along. Academic writing isn’t anything like writing romance! Their tale reached the page in October 2011 as my romance debut, Season for Temptation—and the joy of telling a love story stuck with me through every change and every step of the publication process.

Because of that joy, I’ve decided to reissue Season for Temptation pretty much as it was first published. I did give it a light trim and tidy up a few anachronisms. (For example—did you know that “pocketbook” meant a little notebook rather than a purse in the early 1800s? I didn’t catch that when I started writing, but I learned more over the course of my twenty subsequent Regency-set historical romances.) But Julia and James’s romance is just what it always was: rompy and laughing, the story that began my career as a writer and brought me to where I am today.

I hope you enjoy it!
