Epilogue
Two Years Later
Merritt leaned against the door frame and watched the love of her life and mother of her beautiful daughter, Samantha. Sam lay snuggled against her mother’s chest and Soren’s cheek rested lightly on her head. Her eyes were closed and the only sound coming from the room was the quiet squeak of her rocking chair.
Merritt’s smile widened. God, she was so in love with Soren, even more now than she had been two years ago. Sam was an extension of that amazing love, and Merritt couldn’t think of a more wonderful thing than two people in love sharing such an awe-inspiring responsibility.
As if sensing she was being watched, Soren’s eyes flickered open and she smiled drowsily. Merritt’s heart melted as she realized that, even in repose, Soren was the most beautiful woman she’d ever met. Merritt flicked her eyes toward the ceiling and whispered quietly. “Is she still here?”
Soren kissed Sam’s head gently and something caught her eye. A shimmering visage, the face of a beautiful woman, her hand raised in a silent farewell, a contented smile played at the corners of her mouth. Soren blinked, believing that the vision had been the sun teasing her playfully, but in her heart, she knew she’d finally seen Sam. She smiled at Merritt and shook her head from side to side. “No, she finally finished what she needed to do. She brought love back to this house.”
