Homing Beacon Bracelet

Location: D’Qar

Date: 34 ABY

Homing beacon technology has been utilized by bounty hunters and law-enforcement agencies for decades. In more recent times, this sophisticated technology has become even more compact, allowing beacons to be secreted in individuals’ clothing or surreptitiously worn as statement jewelry.

Even before agreeing to become her Master in Jedi training, Leia Organa shared an immediate connection with Force-sensitive freedom fighter Rey Skywalker. The two women were aligned in purpose and linked by more than blood: Rey formed a rare dyad in the Force with Leia’s son, Ben Solo. Leia and Rey were also bound together by circumstance. Having lost her entire world and her family because of the actions of the Sith-controlled Empire, Leia empathized with the orphaned young scavenger from Jakku.

Before Rey departed for Ahch-To on a desperate mission to bring Luke Skywalker back into the Resistance fold, Leia gave her an S-thread transmitter beacon bracelet “to light her way home,” as she put it. It was twinned with this beacon, which Leia wore on her wrist. Despite Rey’s courageous dedication to the Rebel cause, Leia sensed that the young woman’s history of abandonment might make it especially difficult for her to venture to the faraway Jedi Temple on Ahch-To without a link to remind her of her found family among the Resistance fighters. And for Leia—having lost one child to the conflict already—the glow of the beacon on her wrist was a source of comfort, tangible proof of their connection.

Kept hidden among the jewels and baubles that she customarily wore to respect her royal pedigree and her mother Breha’s teachings, the homing beacon linked Leia to Rey across thousands of light years. Its little glowing orb reinforced a promise Leia had made herself: never to lose another child to the darkness.
