Holy fuck! We're runnin' fast outta the pub and Bam on the horses! Danny's got Violet's bags strapped in on his lap. He cut the reins on all of the horses nearby, smackin' them on the ass, and I see as I look back that there's all sorts of confusion. He just killed a man! Didn't even blink. Just bam! Knife to the chin and the guy was gone. Looked mighty surprised by it all if you ask me. I know I can't believe it myself. So he really is as short tempered as they say. Fast as hell too.
I'm following them, keeping Violet between us in the run through the trees. My horse is sweating hard, he's not going to be able to keep this up on this rocky terrain. I hope we slow down soon. Charlie isn't built for long distance running, not with all this weight on him. Charlie's my horse obviously, took me a long while to get him to trust me. I guess you could say he senses the predator in me. But with a lot of time and patience, I managed to get him to succumb to me and now we are the best of buddies. I can tell by how he's moving that he's tired. We need to slow down.
I push him harder, going past Violet. I hope that I can get Danny to stop us. “I think we've got enough distance.” I yell to him.
“What?” Danny hollers back, holding on to the hat he never seems to take off. He looks like one of them cowboys from the old movies. It's funny how the world repeats when things go to hell.
“I said we need to slow down! My horse can't take it!”
Suddenly he just pulls up the reigns and stops. Charlie and I rear, and I almost fall. Stopped, Charlie stomps at the ground and snorts a little.
“Sorry 'bout back there. Couldn't have a gun in my face like that. Just does somethin' bad to my disposition. Ya know?” Danny smiles gently, patting his horse as he gets down. Violet, like her own steed is panting. Chest heaving up and down, for an instant I think she might topple from the horse, and apparently so did Danny, as we were both at her side helping her down.
“Thanks boys.” She huffs. It is then that I notice she changed her clothes before we left the pub in that flurry. She is wearing a pair of dark blue denim pants that hug her hips and ass deliciously, and a light brown top that falls loosely over her. Her hair is pulled up tight hanging like a pony’s tail. The run has caused some of the front to fall into her face and I can’t help think how sexy she looks.
“I'm so sorry it had to go like that, I didn't think that Telly would be that foolish. I mean, everyone in there knew you were a Bounty Hunter, from the way you holster. I mean it's obvious. I'm really sorry, Danny.” Violet hugs him quickly, tears in her eyes.
Danny returns the embrace, and pulls back softly kissing her cheek before wiping at her tears. “It's okay. It's kinda what I do. Besides, he pulled that gun. You should never pull a weapon unless you plan on usin' it.” He wipes his face which still has blood on it, on his shirt sleeve. “It happens.” He looks at me. I must have been starin' like an amazed little kid or something cuz he tilts his head at me as if I have an eye in the middle of my forehead. “You okay? Need a hug, too?” He opens his arms wide.
I laugh shortly turning off. “That was crazy back there is all.”
“You sure cuz last night you were lookin' for more than that.”
My face grows beet red. “I- I- about that, I'm-”
“It's okay, weren't the first time man's kissed me. Won't be the last fer sure. It's my face, some can't help it.” Danny smirks. “Let's just settle down these horses, get ‘em some water from the river, and then keep goin’. There's plenty of daylight left for travelin'.
