Chapter 18 Danny

I'm nervous as all hell. I can hear them talking about what to do with me. See, one can only go so long before one needs to use the facilities, and mine are in the room for all to see. No privacy and no way to hide. If I'd pissed myself they would have hosed me down and forced me to strip. So secret and dignity in hand I dropped trow and did what I had to do. That's when they realized I was actually a woman. Now not only have they caught a murderer, but I am something for them to gawk and laugh at. Their laughing is really sending me over the edge.

I hate people who laugh at me. See, mamma pulled me outta regular school because I beat the snot out of a little girl who laughed at my stutter. I got over the stutter but never the feeling of rage over being laughed at.

These guys are lucky they are who they are and I am behind these bars. I won’t be behind them much longer thankfully, I can hear Violet and J.D. They are just outside the window. They are up to somethin'. All of a sudden eyes are off me and the deputy is screamin' something awful. I look through the bars and see J.D.'s wolf form, snarling in the open doorway. The Sheriff pulls his gun as the deputy goes for a shotgun. J.D.'s gone before the first shot is fired. The whole gaggle goes runnin', guns pulled as people start screamin' outside. Half a second later Violet comes runnin' in lookin' frantic.

“The keys?” She asks hopefully.

“Sheriff's got ’em.”

“Okay.” She looks 'round spottin' my guns and tosses them in a bag. “You gotta smash out the glass.” She pulls out a towel throwin' it at me. I guess to shield my hands.

I break the glass and soon see fire at the bars. I snarl, which catches me off. That is new. As the fire gets brighter, I can smell the bars burnin'. I look outside through them and my eyes connect with Violet. She smiles at me through the sparks and those hideous goggles protectin' her eyes. My stomach leaps and I'm on the ground. I can feel my body changing. It hurts unbearably, I can hear my bones as they crunch in my ears. I spit out a mouth full of blood and teeth. This didn't happen to J.D., what's wrong with me? My mind's racin’ as my shoulders separate and roll forward. I tear at my shirt and it shreds from my claws. I have claws! A gurgle and a howl escape me.
