They're still sleeping. I'm sittin' here and I'm happy. But only just. Last night Danny and Jake were wonderful, but I can't get what Danny did quite out of my head. She was sorta brutal. I had not seen that part of her. It scares me. But If I am to love her, I've got to love all the parts of her. If I can get over the fact that she turns into a wolf, why can't I get past her doing the things she did to that man who helped to murder and violate her family? Would I not do the same if my parents had been taken in such a way? I'm sure I would have. But my family died in the normal way. Old age mixed with sickness.
Anyhow, I need to shake this feeling off, maybe I just need to talk it out. Maybe I just need to forget about it and go. Danny cares for us both, but I wonder if she cares as we do. There's certainly a bond with Jake, their wolves showed that to me. Together they were fearless. Whatever shortcomings Jake may have in shootin' and huntin' as a man, the wolf knows its stuff and then some. He's a good man, in a sea of awful boys. I look up from my seat over the fire and see Jake is awake, he walks off apparently to take a piss, then comes over to me and takes a seat, kissing my cheek. I wrap my arms around and through his, leaning my head on his shoulder with a heavy sigh.
“You alright?” He asks concerned, grasping my hand. I pull my lips into a smile and kiss his strong muscled forearm.
“I'm just wrestlin' with a few things.”
“Anything I can help with?”
“Maybe. When we were getting Danny out of that cell, I saw her change. It wasn't anything like yours. There was flesh and blood all over, and then she actually ate it before hearing your call to her. What was that about?”
He nodded, not saying anything for a few moments. “That was the first turn. It's different. When the wolf comes it consumes the human part of us. Our nature wins and who we are becomes stronger. At least that was what I learned from the one who turned me. I'm not a violent man, so neither is my wolf. I'm playful, loyal and protective, therefore so is my wolf. Danny, she's complicated, as anyone I've met. She's got that softness, but she's also got a savage side she's been feeding for a long time. It's going to come out in her personality here and there. But I promise you it's all about as normal as any of this gets. She's very determined to finish out her task and get Jimmy Straights for his crimes. But I've no idea what she plans to do after. That keeps me awake.”
“You seem to have answered both questions though I didn't actually ask the last one. You a little psychic I wonder?” Giving him a small nudge.
“Actually we are a little. We can feel your body changes, sometimes smell them. Fear, arousal, anger it comes off in waves, like electricity all over the body. It's kind of cool once you get used to it actually.”
I laugh and so does he. That's when we both spot Danny moving. She's a sight, all disheveled, she hasn't cut her hair in a while and it's starting to twirl at the ends. I notice that her skin tone also seems to have evened out back to her light pale complexion. Her muscles have tightened up, breasts standing out a bit more, though she still has that boyish frame I love about her.
“She's lookin' different?”
“That's her wolf. It tends to perfect things that were off put. I had terrible skin before I turned. You wouldn't know it, though.”
“I could use some of that!”
