It isn’t bad. The men pull together and put in beds for the overnights. But the privacy is lackin’ and I’ve grown accustomed to far better. They treat me like a lady and not some whore. I’ve finally begun getting used to that. Kale helps me hang some sheets and change the bedding. It isn’t fancy, but at least it is clean. Kale doesn’t want to leave me alone, he’s such a worrier. It’s annoyingly adorable.
Apparently before the war when he and Orion were in college he had wanted to be a Baby Doctor. He knows a little which helped immensely. How to calm Daniel, how to keep him from getting sick. Different herbs to feed him to stay off rashes and allergies. He really is going to be pivotal in this strange family.
Danny is wracked with guilt and determination. It’s a peculiar combination of emotions and they all seem to be able to feel it.
They told me what happened to the horses, I didn’t much want to see it. I feel bad about it. I’d had Ellie since she was a colt. I know Blue had belonged to Mike, Danny’s late husband, like the guns. She now doesn’t have anything left of him. I wonder if that has occurred to her yet. I wonder if it still bothers her. She claims otherwise. I would be bothered. But it’s just as well, with all the goings on. I just hope she knows what she’s doing. She seems to have it all worked out, or at least it sounds that way. Then again they got me out of the room didn’t they? I just wish this was all over. That we were back anywhere we had been before. Or on her ranch in Neutah. She said that it is being taken care of by a neighbor called Whittler.
Didn’t the Marshall call her husband that? I’m sort of glad that we decided we wouldn’t go that way without her. The conversation would have been rather awkward. All hello. Why yes Danny left us the place cuz we were all shacked up in California and she ran off to kill some crazy Werewolves, so we decided she wasn’t coming back and took her up on keeping the joint. Ha! That would have been just peachy.
