Chapter 63 Danny

It’s settled then. We’re on our way down into the tunnel, followin’ Marshall Wade Hayes. He is the only one of ‘em who’s been to the end of the tunnel and knows where abouts it comes out. I warned the boys about the Silver in the air so they decided that it would be safer to go through as normal and not use our wolves. Besides the scent of our wolves would be easier to detect. If we covered ourselves in dirt then the other pack would have a hard time followin’ or detectin’ our scents. Kale made a lot of sense when he decided to talk. I like the boy. Hope we get through this so I can tell him so. I’ve got a sinkin’ feelin’, but it could just be the silver in my lungs and this tight ass space. The sooner we’re through, the better I’ll feel.

‘Hey Miss Alpha, wanna wrangle that Claustrophobia in a tiny bit?’ Orion shouted.

“Sorry!” I call back.

“What are you sorry for?” J.D. comes up to me squeezin’ my hand as usual. Hadn’t he heard Orion?

“For my jitters, Orion just—” I look back as I hear him laugh, but his mouth wasn’t movin’. “Gimmie a sec?” I kiss J.D.’s cheek and go to the back of the line where Orion is smiling big and wide at me. I cock my head at him my mouth hangin’ open in amazement. Kale grasps my shoulder with a chuckle.

“Did he actually make contact with you?”

“I’m not, how did you?” I realize I am holdin’ up the line, as J.D. stops which stops Wade after a few steps.

“I-Is everything alright?” Wade asks unsteadily. The scent of his fear wafts down to us. I turn to Kale confused.

“Orion and I can share our thoughts without words. Sometimes we can do it with other people. He wanted to try it with you since we seem to be linking up to your feelings. That Natural Alpha thing is really pretty cool, now that we know what’s goin’ on with it. It’s like our thoughts, only it’s your feelings. You feel loyalty to us so we feel it for you. When you get mad so do we, etcetera. We can use this to communicate as our wolves too, helps at a distance.”

“Glad to know it works.” Orion says aloud. ‘Now let’s keep goin’ and see what kind of distance it gets.’ He finishes in my head. It is strange because it sounds as though he is right up next to me, but isn’t.

OF COURSE NOW THAT he can project thoughts he is twitterin’ away in my head. Talkin’ about how he doesn’t like the fact that we are relyin’ on the Normals to get things done. He doesn’t like the vibe that is comin’ off of Giovanni or Charlie. He thinks we need to keep a better eye on them. I assure him that at least Montgomery is a good man from my experience with him. That him we can trust. He hopes I am right. His voice fades after about a quarter mile. So we know that the range isn’t too far, but enough that if we get separated for any reason he can find me no matter where I am down here, with God like accuracy. He likes that.

THE TUNNELS ARE ABOUT eight miles to the shoreline. When we come out in the boiler room of a warehouse the sun is nice and high. It is about two-thirty. Plenty of time to check things out and hopefully set up a few traps. The twins separate sayin’ they will go out first and split up one high the other low. If things are clear they will let me know so that J.D. and I can search as well. We are going to use Wade’s map to circle in on where the most people have vanished from and J.D. is gonna see if anyone looks familiar should we scent a wolf.
