AKIN TO THE WHISKEY SOUR, this drink is that much more refreshing due to the addition of carbonation. For a Waterloo, add ¾ ounce Mandarine Napoléon liqueur (of course) and replace the garnish with an orange slice.
Shake the whiskey, lemon juice, and simple syrup vigorously with ice. Strain into an ice-filled highball glass. Top with club soda, and stir gently. Squeeze the lemon wedge over the drink, and drop it in. |

SWIZZLES ORIGINATED IN THE CARIBBEAN, where they were named after the “swizzle stick,” a twig used to agitate tall rum drinks. In this case, a jazz musician’s drumstick may be more appropriate.
Shake all the liquid ingredients except the ginger ale vigorously with ice. Strain into an ice-filled collins glass. Top with ginger ale. Garnish with the lemon slice, and add a swizzle stick. |

For a SCOTCH SWIZZLE, substitute scotch for the bourbon, triple sec for the apricot brandy, and lime juice for the lemon juice.
