The only emperor is the emperor of ice-cream.
—Wallace Stevens, “The Emperor of Ice-Cream”
The digital way of thinking is different from the way that we have traditionally thought about technology in the enterprise. To arrive at it we have to overcome a number of dualities: IT and the business; control and speed; agility and pre-planning; complexity and leadership; legacy and innovation; Napoleon and Kutuzov. The image of Shiva and his dance of destruction and re-creation, with one foot firmly on the demons who oppose us, should encourage us to move forward with confidence and humility. Despite Napolean’s hubris—well, the only emperor is the emperor of ice cream. And through it all, smiling bobbleheads.
Good luck with your enterprise transformation.
