acknowledgments

Like any work of this magnitude, the time, talents, and overall goodwill of many were brought to bear in bringing this project to fruition, and we would be remiss not to mention their contributions. Cathy Brigham and Sherby Jean-Leger at the College Board were incredibly helpful in facilitating the preparation and licensing of the world languages Advanced Placement examination data, and Liz Stone at the Educational Testing Service was equally accommodating with the Praxis exam data. Nearly seven hundred Spanish language educators took the time to respond to our online survey, whose results figure prominently in the book, and we owe them heartfelt thanks. Earl K. Brown of Brigham Young University was masterful in his use of “R” to reconfigure the data sets for more efficient analysis. Our research assistants, Laura Shrake and Grace Webb, diligently endured the painstaking task of coding several universities’ undergraduate Spanish courses from the late 1800s to the present. Finally, we thank God and our families for their fierce, undying support and loyalty.
