DAVID CALLAHAN lives in east London. He grew up nursing a fondness for birds which saw him toting binoculars on holidays and trips from a young age, as well as pounding his local patches on a regular basis. He has sought avian delights across North America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Australia, and trained as a taxonomist at the Natural History Museum. He has been staff writer at Birdwatch magazine for six years, as well as contributing pieces to various online blogs and journals.
DOMINIC MITCHELL has been watching birds for more than 40 years, travelling to all seven continents in the process. He is the founder and managing editor of Birdwatch magazine and runs the leading bird information website BirdGuides. His previous books include A Photographic Handbook of the Rare Birds of Britain and Europe and Where to Watch Birds in the London Area. When not studying and photographing gulls on the city’s rubbish tips, he is probably away birding in Norfolk, the Azores or the tropics.
