Theo’s phone buzzed. “Kate!” he said, picking up the call. “Did you leave something behind?”

“I just wanted to tell you about my conversation with Tom. I felt like I could help him, given my history.”

“I’m glad you pulled him aside. How’d it go?”

“Good. I asked him to try and think more about his old manager. It seems like the things you’ve been talking about are sinking in, and I’m thinking he might need some time to put it into practice.”

“Do you think I should pivot to open up some time this afternoon?”

“Feel it out, and see what you think. I trust your judgment. But if Ana is ready, too, it might be useful to give them an invitation and opportunity to apply things.”

“I agree,” Theo said. “That tends to be the most helpful next step. And with Ana, my gut tells me that feeling better than others is not her challenge, at least at work.”

“I think you’re right. It seems like it’s the opposite struggle for her. I’m running to a meeting but can talk later if you want to brainstorm further. Good luck, Theo!”
