Spicy Tomato Ketchup

MAKES ABOUT 2 CUPS

Making your own ketchup at home is not only easier than you might think, but it can also be a great way to experiment with new flavors. Mix in an extra dash of cayenne if you like it hot, or omit it for a more traditional flavor.

2 CUPS DICED TOMATOES

½ CUP VEGETABLE BROTH

1 TABLESPOON APPLE CIDER VINEGAR

1 TABLESPOON BALSAMIC VINEGAR

¼ TEASPOON SCYENNE PEPPER

⅛ TEASPOON GARLIC POWDER

PINCH OF SALT

PINCH OF FRESHLY GROUND BLACK PEPPER

1. In a large bowl, combine all of the ingredients.

2. Puree using an immersion blender until smooth.

3. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Many store-bought ketchups are vegan, although some pack in unnecessary amounts of sugar. Not only does the homemade ketchup above omit the sugar, but it’s so flavorful you won’t even miss it.
