SORCHA DIDN’T WANT to think about the nurses and teachers who had looked after her during the first four years of her life. She especially didn’t want to think about Wort. The talk he’d had with her when she’d been twelve and had reached puberty had been harrowing. Maybe being told that she would have to submit to the Immortal Triumvirate’s demands had been enough to trigger her defenses. When Lord Dallinar had tried to rape her, he’d quickly learned that she was off limits. The fact that she hadn’t zapped Kade meant he’d broken through her walls. She trusted him and she was about to let him divest her of her innocence.
The courier was perfect from head to toe, with a firm, muscular body that was just as gorgeous as his face. She was still suffused with the delicious feeling of her first ever orgasm and hoped the pleasure would continue. She tensed when Kade guided himself into her, but he kissed her gently to ease her fears. When she relaxed, he slid into her. There was a small amount of pain and he murmured words of comfort into her ear as she adjusted to his size.
“Are you okay?” he asked.
“Yeah. The pain is already fading,” she replied. “I heal fast,” she added.
“Good,” Kade said with a grin. “Because I’m not sure how long I can last. Just being inside you is sweet torture.”
“I feel fine now,” the assassin said and ran her hands from his waist down to his butt. It was just as firm as the rest of him.
Kade drew out of her, then slid back in. When she didn’t tense up, he set a slow and steady pace. His amethyst eyes watched her face for any signs of pain or discomfort. She became lost in their depths and drew him down for a long, searing kiss.
The courier increased his pace and warmth began to spread through her again. His hands roamed over her breasts. He nuzzled her neck while his shaft continued to glide in and out of her body.
Sorcha gave herself over to the sensations that were rising inside her. She was gasping and moaning and could feel ripples of pleasure spiking in a prelude to another orgasm. Kade felt it, too. He rose up on his elbows so he could watch her, then thrust himself into her faster and faster. The friction built up to an unbearable level of pleasure, then she went over the edge calling his name. This time, she managed to retain control of her magic.
Kade waited until she’d finished shuddering from ecstasy, then paused to kiss her. “I’m glad you trusted me enough to be your first,” he said huskily.
“Me, too,” the sorceress agreed, then realized he was still hard. “You’re not done yet?” she asked, wondering if she’d done something wrong.
“I’m just getting started,” he replied, then rolled them over so she was on top. “Ride me, Sorcha,” he requested.
Sorcha had seen enough of her victims in bed to know what he wanted her to do. She sat up and began to slide up and down on him. His hands were on her hips and his expression soon became dazed with desire. It was empowering for her to be in charge like this. She put her hands on his muscular chest and sped up her thrusts. Kade’s hips rose to meet hers, inciting her to a frantic pace. Sorcha could feel another climax building. She willed Kade to hang on long enough for her to topple over the edge with him.
The courier knew she was close and began to rub her pleasure center. With a strangled moan, she clenched around him in wave after wave of ecstasy. He pumped his hips, joining her in a climax that left them both feeling wrung out from pleasure.
Sorcha collapsed on Kade’s chest. He wrapped his arms around her, making her feel safe for the first time in her life. Dawn had arrived and sunlight peeked around the edges of her heavy drapes. “Do you want me to go?” he asked in a reluctant tone.
“No. I want you to stay,” she replied.
He kissed her on the forehead, but tightened his arms when she went to slide off him. “I like having you lying on top of me,” he said.
“I like having you beneath me,” she said shyly. It felt right, as if they were meant to be together.
They fell asleep, but woke up a few times throughout the day to explore each other’s bodies and learn how to give each other the greatest amount of pleasure. They woke up shortly before nightfall and shared a long, steamy shower together. Sorcha’s undine magic rose again as Kade pounded himself into her with her back pressed up against the tiled wall. He let out a yelp when the water turned icy, but he didn’t stop. The sorceress’ legs tightened around him as she cried out in ecstasy. As soon as she went limp, the water became hot again. “Sorry about that,” she said sheepishly after Kade orgasmed. “I don’t have full control of my water magic.”
Kade kissed her to show he wasn’t upset. “Didn’t anyone teach you how to use your magic?” he asked as they washed themselves off.
“Not really,” she hedged. Wort couldn’t use magic, but he’d taught her and her friends the basics. She didn’t tell the courier that half of her magic was locked away. That would raise too many questions that she couldn’t answer without giving away who and what she was.
After drying off, they ambled into the kitchen to prepare a meal. It was strange having a companion to eat with, but their conversation was light and easy. Kade didn’t pry, or ask her any deeply personal questions. They were still getting to know each other and he didn’t want to jeopardize their relationship.
Sorcha’s elated mood soured a little at that thought. She couldn’t have a lasting relationship with Kade. They could have fun for a while, but she couldn’t pretend to be a normal person forever. She had duties and obligations that she couldn’t shirk. She also had her own personal missions to complete. The last thing she wanted was for Kade to get caught up in her mess and end up getting hurt.
Their dishes and silverware vanished when they finished eating, but Kade didn’t even blink an eye. It was almost as if he was used to the magic of Nox cleaning up after him like it did for her. A letter squirmed its way beneath her door before she could follow that train of thought.
“Duty calls?” Kade asked when she tore the letter open and read the message.
“Yeah,” Sorcha replied as her first kill order for the night took root in the back of her head. “I hate to end our time together, but I have to go to work.”
“So do I,” the courier said ruefully. “I have packages to pick up that won’t deliver themselves.”
They shared a laugh at the reminder that he’d been scolded by a guildmember last night, then stood up. Sorcha didn’t tell him what her job was and hoped he wouldn’t ask. She could lie, but she didn’t want to be untruthful to him. He was a good man and she wished she was a good woman. But she was a killer and he was an innocent. Nothing was going to change, unless she could break free from her masters. “I’d better go,” she said and slid her arm through his. His red cloak was now hanging on a hook near the door. He stopped to put it on, then followed her out of her apartment.
“Aren’t you forgetting something?” Kade asked as she was about to open the front door.
“What did I forget?” she asked in alarm.
“You’re not wearing one of your disguises,” he said with a grin.
Grateful for the reminder, she conjured up a glamor of a bland, ordinary face and body. “I guess I was a bit distracted,” she said. She’d created the shield to mask her scent at the same time, glad he’d mentioned the illusion spell before she’d left the house.
“I’ll take that as a compliment,” he replied as they left the mansion and stepped onto the sidewalk. “When can I see you again?” he asked.
“Soon, I hope,” she replied. Orders could come for her at any time, which would make it hard for her to set a specific time to see him.
“We’ll work something out,” he said confidently. With a final kiss, he sauntered towards the City Square while she headed for the curb to catch a carriage to the Vampire District. She wanted time to think about her future and the journey would allow her to take the time to brood.
