Note to my American readers:

 

This novel uses Canadian spelling, which is sort of a hybrid of US and UK English. You’ll see words like colour, neighbour, practice, and licence, and they’re not typos. You’ll also see Tim Hortons — it’s a Canadian coffee chain, slowly invading the northern states, and spelled without an apostrophe. (I keep checking, because it keeps looking wrong!) That said, and despite the many eyes that have checked the manuscript, I can’t guarantee perfection. But I’ve done my best!
