The time we bought was well spent but still too close.
If the coppers arrived a bit earlier they’d have ruined everything.
She just can’t leave well enough alone.
I watch her snooping around. Flashing her torch. Searching for evidence which doesn’t exist. Far too careful to leave anything for them to find. But she needs to take care. Stop digging.
Or I’ll stop her.
That is a pleasant thought.
They’ve walked the street, her and her boss. The van was a bad idea. Told him not to use it as bait. It risks our operation. No chance of pinning the crash on me but there might be questions. Interference for a while.
No matter. Our first cargo is safely away and so begins our brave new business.
She picks something up from the gutter. I can’t see… her car blocks my view, but she has a plastic bag from her pocket and shows her boss.
Something startled her.
Stupid woman. Looking around as if she can see in the dark.
She’s looking straight at me and doesn’t know it.
