Fighting Disease

Each fall, the human population worries about flu outbreaks, and everyone is encouraged to get a flu shot. Animals can be affected by outbreaks too. Ranavirus is a deadly DNA virus that can infect entire populations of amphibians, fish and reptiles. It has had such serious effects on populations that the Global Ranavirus Consortium was formed in 2011. Scientists and others world are working hard to learn more about the causes, prevention and treatment of this deadly disease.
