Dear Elle and Travis,
If you’re reading this, your father and I are dead. It seems silly to write it down, but it gives me the peace needed to admit all of this, and to do right by you two.
I’m sorry. I hoped it wouldn’t come down to this, but some things we can’t anticipate, no matter how obvious it becomes later on.
We only wanted what was best for you two. And when we had to choose between our lives, or a better future for our children, we knew right away—we’d choose you. We’re giving you a different opportunity now. A life without regret, corruption, and crime.
This isn’t much, but it should be enough to get you on your feet. Start something real. Something successful and stable. It’s what we’d hoped to do as a family before we realized what we’d gotten into.
And when you’re ready, this should be all you’ll need to take down the man who had us killed.
Love, Mom
