APPENDIX D

References and Further Reading

Each chapter of this book, and sometimes each page, could be a book in itself. Listed here are the references and suggestions for additional reading on the key topics of the book. Many offer useful information or insights, but they are rarely comprehensive or well integrated. For example, daylighting books may pay little attention to space conditioning, and books on solar heating may pay little attention to daylighting, ventilation, and cooling.

Precomputer articles of interest are included, because too often work before the mid-1980s is not well indexed or considered. The papers from the time before “cheap” air-conditioning and sealed buildings are particularly relevant. The many Passive Solar Conference proceedings (US and UK) and Passive and Low Energy Architecture organization proceedings are also worth reviewing.
