Chapter Thirty Seven
“Thanks for the call,” Wayne said to Marvella. Before hanging up, he asked, “Any change in the medical status of Warren or Katerina?”
“Mr. Manton is much better. We expect him to make a full recovery. But the best news is that his daughter came out of her coma today. We hope to be able to remove the life support in the next day or two.”
“That’s great news. Tell Mr. Manton I’ll be by to see him tomorrow.”
“Will do.” Marvella hung up.
Wayne called Larry and asked him to get back to him as soon as he reviewed Jordan’s story. He needed to know the content of the piece. He hoped that the threat of the publicity from the story combined with the findings of the experts assembled at the Holiday Inn conference would provide enough leverage to coerce an out of court settlement from the investors. He called Jordan back.
“Jordan, I’ve got some good news. Dirk actually filed his story into e-mail before he was killed. One of his associates is reviewing it now, and is going to call me back with his impression of the impact the story might have on our case. Once I get his response, I want to contact the investors. I want to feel them out as to their reactions to our information and evidence. Do you think you can put me in touch with them?”
“I remember our president mentioning them in a meeting I attended right after the crash. I don’t think I can ask him for information about them without compromising Gail and my activities. Sorry.”
“I really need to contact them. Let me know if you come up with any ideas.” There was no response from Jordan, only a dial tone.
“No more calls for a while,” Gail softly demanded as she took the cell phone from Jordan’s hand and closed it. She removed both of her towels, slipped under the covers, and turned out the bedside light.
“Going to take a nap, are you?”
“Not for a while.” She grabbed his neck and pulled him close.
