9.1. Wrap up and summary
In summary, owing to the cybersecurity “skills gap” you have made a wise career choice!
To summarize, what we have outlined in this book, we see two vital and determining factors that will assist you in being able to land a job in cybersecurity, these are:
1. Experience: Although hiring managers are acutely aware of the shortage of cyber professionals, they are equally aware of the importance of hiring experienced individuals. If you lack experience, then we encourage you to either take a paid or unpaid internship, or, offer to audit and test friends and families business websites, computer systems, and networks; this in itself can be counted as experience and you can certainly place this on your resume.
2. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: You must keep learning new technologies and applying them. A cybersecurity professional working in the field is only as attractive as the knowledge, skills, and abilities they possess. You must make yourself as attractive as possible by constantly learning new penetration-testing methodologies and processes.
We wish you the best of luck in your job search and hope that you enjoyed reading and learning from our book as much as we enjoyed writing it.
