Interiors and Intimate Views

Sketching on the spot can mean working inside, too. Our homes are a haven, a place to rest, regroup and create. I’ve sketched the interior of mine dozens of times, small vignettes that really say “home” to me.

It isn’t necessary to sketch an entire room or put in every detail. Focus on what catches your eye, like the way the light shines on a textured white wall, the shadows thrown by your favorite potted plant or the inviting shade of your screened porch.

In inclement wetather—snow, heat, rain—continuing to work on the spot is not always easy. In addition, some of us are housebound, but that certainly doesn’t mean we need to give up on the idea of working on the spot. This is our spot.

Inviting

Nina Khashchina utilizes toned paper, ink and a few touches of color to invite us into a corner of her home in Ireland.

Draw Yourself

Put yourself in the picture if you want. After all, it’s your home and your sketch! Warren Ludwig really looks comfortable on the couch.
