Life is full of challenges, so why not reflect that in our art? Dealing with changing weather conditions, life changes, painting in unusual circumstances, dealing with loss, recording events—these things can bring your art to a new and meaningful level.
Practice quick-sketching on something that moves, like a pet, toddler, baseball players or birds at the feeder. Just get down what you can—the gesture, the basic shape. You can always add color or more detail later, especially if your subject returns to roughly the same position. It’s great practice!
You may find that sketching a moving object is both fun and challenging. My huge goldfish, Normal, seldom holds still for a moment. As a result, I just fill a page with images, using a variety of mediums.
