“Snow? Well isn’t this just great?” Malajia drawled sarcastically. Walking out of her dorm only to be greeted by a snow covered campus was not Malajia’s idea of a good start to the day. “I never liked this crap.”
“It’s so pretty though,” Emily smiled, brushing snow off of the railing with her glove-covered hand.
“Yeah, it’s pretty, until some of it hits you in the face,” Malajia jeered, adjusting her purse on her shoulder.
“What do you mean?” Emily asked.
“She’s referring to snowball fights,” Alex butt in, carefully stepping down the steps. “Mix fresh snow and wired students, and it’s bound to happen.”
“Oh. My mom never let me play,” Emily shrugged. “She was always afraid that I was going to get hurt.”
“Hmm, no shock there,” Malajia mocked.
Before Malajia got a chance to make it to the bottom of the dorm steps, she was greeted by a snowball to the neck. “The hell?” she exclaimed as she recognized the two figures running, and then she heard their signature laugh. “Jason, Mark! Ya’ll play too damn much,” she screamed.
Emily giggled as she tried to help Malajia brush the snow off of her coat.
“They got you good girl,” Alex laughed.
Angry, Malajia flung some of the snow from her coat onto Alex, causing her to shriek.

“Shit, shit, shit,” Chasity frantically repeated as she ran along the path towards her dorm. Just as she reached the steps, a snowball flew past her head and slammed into the wall.
“You missed, bitch!” she yelled, before ducking inside and shutting the door. She let out a scream as another snowball hit the closed door, startling her. Annoyed, she snatched her scarf from around her neck and headed up to her room.
Sidra turned around as the door opened. “Hey Chaz, how is it outside?” she asked as she shrugged into her dark blue, double-breasted pea coat and wrapped a scarf around her neck.
“It’s freakin’ snowing,” Chasity complained, taking off her boots.
Sidra groaned. “Seriously? I hate the stuff.”
“Yeah, well, watch your back when you go outside. Those freaks from Wilson Hall are attacking every girl who lives in this dorm with snowballs,” Chasity warned, removing her coat.
“Ugh, that is so middle school,” Sidra scoffed. “Finals are in two days. I don’t have time for childish games.”
“Don’t say I didn’t warn you,” Chasity said.
Sidra thought for a second, before opening the window, and removing some snow from the ledge. “Might as well travel with protection,” she said as she formed the snow into a ball.
Chasity shook her head in amusement as Sidra walked out the door.

“I can’t wait until these finals are over,” Josh declared, adjusting the knit hat on his head.
“You can’t wait?” David quibbled. “Man, I’m tired of studying. I’ve never done so much of it in my life. And that says a lot coming from a straight A student such as myself.” Just having finished a rigorous study session in their dorm lounge, David and Josh took a much needed excursion to the cafeteria.
Josh shot him a sideway glance. “Just gonna throw that in my face, huh?” he questioned, voice full of disdain.
“Sorry man,” David chortled, then stopped suddenly as Jason and Mark, who were hiding behind a tree, jumped out and started pelting him and Josh with snowballs.
“Seriously guys?” Josh shouted, grabbing a handful of snow and tossing it back.
“Hey, watch the glasses guys!” David yelled as a snowball flew past his face.
“Shut up,” Mark jeered, throwing one last snowball. “You always complaining about those damn glasses.”
Jason laughed as he brushed snow off of his coat with his gloved-covered hands. “Catch you later fellas,” he said, walking off.
“Later Jase.” Mark was adjusting his baseball cap on his head when he noticed that David was scowling at him. “What?” he exclaimed.
“Instead of throwing snowballs at unsuspecting people, why aren’t you studying?” David scolded, brushing snow off of his coat.
“Get off my back,” Mark shot back. “It’s Saturday.”
“Yeah, but finals are Monday,” David reminded.
Mark sucked his teeth. David is always so damn serious, he thought. He was about to fire off a snide remark, but was immediately distracted by a very attractive young lady walking with some of her friends. A smile came across his face as he ambled towards her.
“There goes the wanna-be Casanova,” Josh joked, watching his friend coax the girl away from her group so he could talk to her. “How many girls is he kickin’ it with on campus now? Two?”
“More like three,” David corrected. “One of those girls is gonna cuss him out one of these days.”

“Why does this freakin’ walk to Chaz and Sid’s dorm feel so long today?” Malajia complained, trudging through the snow.
“Maybe because you decided to wear those high-heeled boots,” Alex mocked. Malajia grabbed onto Alex’s coat for balance just as she was about to fall. “See? I don’t understand why you didn’t change them when you saw that it snowed. You know this ground is slick.”
“I’m sure you would love it if I wore boots as ugly as yours,” Malajia sneered, pointing to Alex’s brown snow boots. Alex, annoyed by Malajia’s snide comment, jerked the arm that Malajia was holding on to, causing her to slip and fall on her butt.
“Damn it, Alex!” Malajia shrieked as she struggled to get up. “That was uncalled for.”
“So was your smart ass comment about my boots,” Alex shot back. “I already told you to stop talking about my wardrobe.”
Emily stifled a giggle as she grabbed Malajia’s hand and pulled her up from the ground. As Malajia angrily brushed the lingering snow and salt off of her coat and behind, a figure running up the path towards Torrence hall caught her eye.
“Wait a minute, is that Sidra?” Malajia laughed, watching her friend shield her face from flying snowballs with her expensive satchel.
“Shouldn’t we do something? I mean, she’s outnumbered,” Emily asked as she adjusted her fuzzy pink earmuffs.
“Yeah, we should,” Malajia agreed. A sinister smile crossed her face “Get her!” she shouted to the snow throwers.
Alex nudged Malajia, “Some friend you are,” she chastised.
Malajia nudged her back. “Friend or no friend, we live in the rival dorm. Wilson Hall all day, baby,” she joked.
Out of breath, Sidra finally made it to the front door. A snowball hit her in the back as she pushed the door open. Furious, she spun around. “You ugly bastards. I should beat the shit out of you,” she screamed, before slamming the door.
Walking up the steps, Alex recognized one of the throwers. Of course Jackie and her dumb friends would be behind this dorm war, she thought. “Always the trouble maker,” she scoffed. “Don’t you people have studying to do?” As soon as she turned her back to head inside, a snowball hit her. “Very mature, Jackie.”

“Ouch! What the hell?” Malajia yelled. She was greeted by a pillow to the face once she, Alex, and Emily stepped foot in Sidra and Chasity’s room.
“I hope that hurt,” Sidra hissed, tossing the fluffy pillow on her bed.
“Yeah, bitch, it kinda did,” Malajia seethed, rubbing her eyes. “What the hell was that for?”
“I heard you tell those girls to get me, you heathen,” Sidra mentioned.
Malajia relaxed her frown and chuckled. “Oh yeah, I didn’t think you heard me,” she teased, removing her scarf.
“You know, your mouth is big,” Sidra jeered, sitting on her bed.
Emily shivered as she rubbed her shoulders. “Do you girls have any hot chocolate or anything? I’m freezing.”
“It is cold in here,” Alex put in, holding her hand over the vent. “Is the heat on?”
“Yes. You’re cold because you just came in from outside,” Chasity said as she put her coat on.
“Where the hell are you going?” Malajia questioned, sitting on the floor near the heating vent.
“Do I have to explain myself every time I go somewhere?” Chasity asked.
“Yes, ‘the evil sister’, you do,” Malajia sneered.
Chasity rolled her eyes. “Bye,” she threw over her shoulder as she walked out.
“What do y’all have to eat in here?” Malajia asked, looking inside of Chasity’s trunk full of snacks.
Sidra hurried over and quickly closed it, nearly catching Malajia’s fingers. “Sid what the hell?” she cried out.
“You get nothing, traitor,” Sidra shot back, pointing at her.
Dumbfounded, Malajia sat there with her mouth wide open.
––––––––
A snowball flew past Chasity’s head as she walked outside the dorm, startling her. “Don’t start that bullshit again!” she shouted.
“Whatever bitch,” Jackie laughed. “I’ll get you one of these days.” Then her eyes brightened. Jason was coming up the path. “Hey, Jason baby,” she yelled, striking her best sexy pose.
He gave her a quick wave and continued walking. He stopped a few feet from Chasity. “I’ve been looking for you...”
“Jason, when is your next game?” Jackie hollered. Jackie didn’t want him talking to Chasity at all.
Jason let out a loud sigh as he looked at her. “Do you mind, Jackie? I’m trying to talk to Chasity.”
“Oh, please. You can talk to her ignorant ass later,” Jackie pouted, waving her hand in Chasity’s direction.
Chasity shot Jackie a venomous look. “Listen, whatever your name is,” she snapped, “you don’t want to start with me.”
“Please,” Jackie sneered. “I’ll stomp your ass, if you keep on talking that shit.”
Chasity frowned as she recalled hearing that very same threat before. She focused on Jackie’s face, recognizing her as the same girl who she’d had a confrontation with, in the beginning of the semester. Well, ain’t this some coincidental bullshit? Chasity began to take a step toward Jackie but was halted by Jason, who lightly grabbed her arm.
“You’ve been avoiding me,” Jason said, completely ignoring Jackie’s attempts to attract his attention. “What’s the problem?”
“Excuse me?” Chasity asked, fixing him with a blank stare.
“If I made you feel uncomfortable when I almost kissed you, then I’m sorry.”
“Jason...”
“You can’t blame me for wanting to kiss you. But you don’t have to avoid me because of it,” he interrupted.
Chasity, unnerved by her response to him, resorted to her default reaction. She lashed out. “I don’t have time for this. I have to go,” she declared, walking away.
“Chasity!” he shouted after her, but she kept her head down and ignored him.
