“Yes, honey. I’m fine,” Kelly whispers kissing sounds on the other end, and I laugh at her playfulness.
It’s been a while since she and her friend, Tatiana, went to Las Vegas. She went there three years ago and enjoyed her time. In fact, I believe she regained herself after that trip. Perhaps, this trip will do good things for me.
The moment I find Nicholas’s wife and become certain that the baby is mine, I’ll get my child and convince Kelly to adopt it. She doesn’t have to know that it’s mine. My baby will grow up as ours. I was ready to accept her firstborn to be my child, too. But she didn’t trust me. As much as I want her to accept my child, I know she won’t. Kelly will see it as a betrayal. It can break what we hold dear.
“Terrence is calling, Mommy. I need to take it,” Kelly says her goodbye and hangs up. Terrence also drops his call and sends me a message instead.
My hands tremble when pictures of Nicholas’s wife appear on my phone. All the pictures of Nicholas and his wife were torn down from the internet or any social media pages where they can be found. She always had her face bare and without makeup.
I walk to Allyson, who sleeps on the bed as innocent as Kelly. Her sweat erased her thick make-up she wore. Without it, her face looks simple and still lovely. I look at her hair. The ends near her scalp are light brown, proving that her red hair isn’t her natural color.
Allyson stretches as she yawns. Her face twitches as the pain of exhaustion stings her. She opens her eyes slowly and looks straight at me. I quickly put on my mask to cover my face.
“I’m sorry, Master. Did I pass out?” Allyson worried.
I look at the picture on my phone and back to her. I look into her foxy brown eyes and smile. “You did well, little fox.”
