Let me say clearly up front, this is a work of fiction. Although many of these stories are based on actual events, none of these are completely true stories, nor are they meant to be. The beauty of telling these fictional tales is the ability to change the facts while hopefully retaining the spirit of the story. A lot of these things happened to me. In hindsight, I always know exactly what I should have said or done. I know how the situation should have played out. I always believe that the good guys should prevail, but sometimes they don’t. Now they can. So I’ve changed the endings and sometimes the beginnings too. My way of correcting the mistakes of the past, I suppose.

Some of the characters in these stories are entirely fictional, others are based on real people, but none of the characters are meant to be representative of any actual person. In fact, they are composites of the many wonderful friends and colleagues with whom I have been blessed to work over the years. And of course, I am in there too. For example, to be perfectly honest, Bradford is partly me. So is Copeland. And Reynolds. And Griffen. And even Peters. And they are all partly someone else as well.

So what is true? I worked for 35 years in the field of education. In my career, I worked for ten different school districts, on fifteen different campuses, (spent time working at the bus barn), and served under countless principals, athletic directors, and superintendents. I was a teacher, a coach, an assistant principal, a principal, and a few made-up positions along the way. I’ve lived in many small towns and been a member of many small churches. And I’ve eaten at lots of drive-ins over the years. It has been an interesting journey and I’ve loved almost every minute of it. Along the way, I’ve had a lot of fun and met some great folks. Hopefully, you will find these tales entertaining!
