The last thing Tara needs is a nosey man.
The last thing Jake needs is an uptight female with a grumpy cat.
When Meyers Security is hired to find a stolen, multi-million dollar Thoroughbred, Jake uses the opportunity to chase down the one woman who's hovered at the edge of his mind for far too long. Tara isn't his type, yet he can't shake the image of her lean, mean attitude, long black hair, and mysterious dark eyes.
Tara has a rep—handles whatever comes her way, and is paid top fees as an international equine escort. Jake is the one man who can get her to talk, but at what price? She has enough information to blow his case out of the water, but she's been lying so long it feels like the truth.
One horse is missing. Will there be more?

Dear Reader,
Welcome to the Intrepid Women Series... kickass women and the men who dare to love them.
All of these books stand alone, but if you read them in order, you’ll start to feel like the characters are old friends.
Snuggle in and get ready to be entertained. Enjoy glimpses of the beautiful Pacific Northwest, and Texas ranch country while having fun with dogs, cats, horses, and helicopters. I’m an animal lover, so my characters are too.
Many of the books involve Meyers Security—a family-run company specializing in keeping people safe in spite of the odds—and ETCETERA—a clandestine agency made up of agents with cool yet believable paranormal abilities.
I hope you come to love all these special people and their furry companions just as much as I do.

Prologue
May, 1986.
Two thousand feet above the Rocky Mountains.
So sleepy. Rose shook her head, blinking to clear her vision. Caffeine. She fumbled with the cup on the top of her thermos, finally getting it off and filling it with coffee and drinking quickly, not caring about the bitter taste. Must have forgotten the sugar, she thought, as it burned her tongue and the back of her throat.
When she shoved the cockpit window open a thin, frigid blast of air swept through the tiny cabin, making her shiver and wish for a warmer jacket—until an oddly thick sensation enveloped her. She slapped at her cheeks. Had to focus. Fix what was wrong. Think!
Altitude sickness? One glance at the altimeter told her no, and she could afford a couple thousand feet to improve the oxygen. She cut power, dropped the right wing, and eyed the mountains as she slipped to a lower altitude.
Her arms were leaden as she poured and drank yet more coffee, barely able to get the lid back on with limp fingers. Worse. Getting worse. I can’t die here. My baby. Her birthday. Sweet sixteen. So pretty.
Rose fought the fog enveloping her. Clicked her mike. “Mayday, mayday, all stations.” Struggling to focus on the instrument panel, she gave her location. Hard to make the words. Again. She managed two more calls before sound stopped coming from her mouth, and darkness closed in.
Rose. Open your eyes.
The telepathic voice startled her, then she smiled. Hannah, always with me when I need you. She could rest easy now.
Open your eyes.
Rose did as she was told, and marveled at the trees as they grew closer. So green. So welcoming.
They both knew there was nothing anyone could do to save Rose this time. She’d used up her ninth life, but she wasn’t cold and empty. Instead there was warmth as arms somehow cradled her, surrounded her. And Hannah’s voice soothed. Rest now, Rose.
You’ll look after my baby for me. The trees reached out. Colors spun in kaleidoscope fashion while sound became distant.
Close your eyes, my friend, I’ve got you.
The plane plowed into the mountainside and fragmented.
There was no pain. Just disbelief.
Utter silence descended.
And hundreds of miles away, Hannah wept.
