Wallpaper Paste

makes 1½ gallons - use with Papier-mâché

MATERIALS

4 cups (1 L) flour

1 cup (250 ml) sugar

1 gallon (4 L) warm water

4 cups (1 L) cold water

½ T. (7 ml) oil of cinnamon (optional)

PROCESS

1. mix flour and sugar in a large pan
2. add enough warm water to make smooth paste
3. then add rest of warm water, stirring
4. boil, stirring until thick and clear
5. thin with 4 cups (1 L) cold water
6. add oil of cinnamon if paste will not be used same day
7. use with Papier-Mâché and other projects using large amounts of paste

HINTS

• spreads best when warm
• keeps for a few days
• makes 1½ gallons (6 L)
• use to cover lamp shades and wastebaskets with cloth or wallpaper
