Nutty Putty
make your own Silly Putty™

MATERIALS
2 t. (10 ml) Borax™
1/3 cup (75 ml) water
2 cups (500 ml) regular white glue (not school glue)
additional 13/4 cups (425 ml) water
2 bowls
wooden spoon
food coloring
plastic egg
container with snap on top
plastic bag (ziplock)
PROCESS
- in one bowl, mix the Borax and 1/3 cup (75 ml) water
- let the Borax dissolve completely; set this bowl aside
- in a second bowl, mix the glue and 13/4 cup (425 ml) water
- add a few drops of food coloring, if desired; stir well
- add the Borax-water mixture to the glue-water mixture and see the mixture clump together like magic
- knead (ignore excess water)
- use for bouncing, lifting pictures from comics, and creative play just like commercial Silly Putty
HINTS
- store putty in a large ziplock plastic bag (air released)
- store putty in a plastic egg for fun or gift
- putty lasts about 2-3 weeks (or until “fragrance” indicates that it is time to make a new batch)
- recipe can be cut in half for a small batch, or doubled for a larger batch
