“Maybe,” said Max. “But, right now, it doesn’t seem like the world is all that interested in anything I might do or say. I’m just the dumb genius who sprayed salt water up into the air in Australia.”

Ben and Max had one last snack together.

In the empty break room where they sat on cardboard boxes and ate whatever was left in the CMI fridge.

When their light meal was done and their stomachs felt queasy, Ben said, “I’ll have my driver run you out to the airport.”

“That’s okay,” said Max. “I’ll just grab a cab. I have enough cash.”

She didn’t want to be the one to remind Ben that he didn’t have a driver or a car anymore.
