With a decent understanding of the history of runes, we can move on and learn their meanings and what makes them so powerful. The Elder Futhark is believed to be the most ancient Germanic runic alphabet. It got its name Futhark from the first six runes of the alphabet: Fehu, Uruz, Thurisaz, Ansuz, Raidho, and Kaunaz. This is similar to how the Greek word alphabet was created using the first two Greek letters, Alpha and Beta. As mentioned in the introduction, the Elder Futhark is broken down into three sections of eight runes. We’ll begin with Freyr’s Aett.
