“PLEASE, YOU DON’T HAVE to do this,” Hutch fearfully called. “Don’t do it. Leave her alone.”
He just looked at her and smiled. He took his knife and sliced the woman’s throat from ear to ear. Blood sprayed across the ground as the knife cut deep into the woman’s throat. The amount of force used behind this cut almost decapitated her. The ground around her absorbed the blood as if it had an unquenchable thirst.
Hutch looked away as the killer continued his macabre work. She couldn’t bear to watch the removal of the dead woman’s eyes and tongue. He took such pleasure in his work.
Hutch turned toward him. Maybe she would get a good look at his face. As in the past, he was consumed by the shadows.
Hutch woke up with a jolt. Her heart grieved for the young woman whose life was cut short. Tears spilled down her cheeks. Her body shivered in grief for what she’d witnessed.
As she sat up, she was transported to another vision. This time it was something very different. Instead of witnessing the horrific scene play out, she watched the scene through the eyes of the murderer.
He walked slowly back to his car. She felt each step he made even though she was lying in bed. Suddenly, he stopped and looked back to where he’d left the body. When he smiled, her own mouth twisted upward at the same moment.
Before he could get to his car, the vision faded away. She desperately tried to enter his mind once again. She wanted to see where he lived, get a better description of the car or anything that would be helpful. Instead, the vision ended. She lay quivering on the bed as the realization of what happened hit her. She saw through the murderer’s eyes. Was this going to be something new or just a one-time event?
Mike sensed that she was awake and reached out to pull her into his embrace, “It happened again didn’t it? Do you want to talk about it?”
She buried herself in the crook of his arm and swallowed hard, “Tonight, I not only watched him murder her, but for a few seconds, I saw from his eyes.”
Mike sat up abruptly and brought her to him, “What do you mean? You could get into his mind?”
She nodded her head, “Yes, but only for a few seconds. Oh Mike, it was awful. I felt him walking and smiling. I experienced everything he did. That never happened before. With Joshua, I attempted to read his mind, but I never felt what he was feeling. This time, I actually felt what the murderer felt.”
Mike pulled her into his arms even tighter, letting her feel his strength. She brought his head to hers and kissed him deeply. She wanted to forget about the murders and killer for a while. She wanted to feel passion and desire. Mike felt her need and he kissed her deeper. She ran her fingers through his thick hair and held him as she kissed him with raw passion. He pulled back and trailed kisses down her neck. Soon they were swept away by their passion.
