* Apart from Major-General Lomax, in command of the 1st Division, and General Monro, in command of the 2nd, the officers who were killed outright were Colonel F. W. Kerr and Major G. Paley (General Staff, 1st Division), Lieut. A. J. Percival and Captain R. Ommanney (General Staff, 2nd Division), Captain F. M. Chenevix-Trench (Brigade Major, Royal Artillery, 2nd Division) and Captain G. P. Sheddon of the 35th Heavy Battery. Captain R. Giffard, General Munro’s ADC, was mortally wounded and four other officers seriously hurt. The dead are buried in the Ypres town cemetery near Captain Lord Worsley’s grave.
* One of the survivors of the London Scottish who took part in the Battle of Messines Ridge was Ronald Colman who was to win fame and fortune in Hollywood as a film star.
