A week later, I found myself on a ladder holding up a banner as Pete hung it in front of my shop. The vinyl banner rippled in the breeze. It read: Chic Designs by Mel in black cursive lettering. He screwed in the last hook and hung the corner up, and then he climbed down the latter. We stepped back from the entrance to look at the banner.
“It looks great.” He kissed the top of my head. “Congratulations.” I wrapped my arms about his waist and leaned into his side.
“It was a team effort,” I murmured into his lips
“It sure was.” Delilah came from the shop, carrying cans of soda for us. “You couldn’t do it without us.” I wrapped an arm around her and sighed.
“Tomorrow’s the grand opening. Can you believe it?” I took in the sparkling windows, the gleaming floors, and the mannequins dressed in their finest.
“How exciting is that? A dress shop in Sunnydale.” Delilah squealed. “I’m glad you decided to come back.”
“Sunnydale’s now my home.” I smiled at Pete. “There’s nowhere in the world I’d rather be.” He leaned down to kiss me.
“You two are too much for me.” Delilah shuttered. “I’m going inside to put up the finishing touches.”
A beat-up old truck pulled up next to us. Kade stepped out of the driver’s side. “The sign looks good. Your grand opening is the talk of the town. Is Dee inside?”
Pete and I nodded as he walked around us, smirking. His boots clomped on the wooden floor. I stuck my head inside the door in time to see Kade sweep his cowboy hat off of his head before ducking to kiss Delilah. She turned bright red and swatted at him.
“Why do they fight it so much?” I snuggled back into Pete’s side.
“Sometimes, love is hard.” Pete leaned down to kiss me, again.
