LIVING FAITHFULLY IN OUR MARRIAGES
MEN WHO LEAD their wives lovingly and sacrificially bear witness to a Savior who gave his life for the church. Likewise, wives bear witness to the truth when they respect their husbands and gladly submit to their leadership. By God’s grace and with the help of his Spirit, followers of Christ ought to be known for their faithfulness and selflessness in marriage.
An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life.
PROVERBS 31:10-12
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands.
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.
EPHESIANS 5:22-25
Wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives, when they see your respectful and pure conduct. . . .
Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.
1 PETER 3:1-2, 7
Responding in Prayer
- If you are married, ask God to strengthen your marriage and to show you areas where you need to grow. If you are single, ask God to expand your opportunities to serve him faithfully and effectively.
- Husbands, pray that God would give you courage to lead and a heart that is willing to sacrifice for your wife. Wives, pray that God would give you humility as you seek the good of your husband and submit to his leadership.
- Ask God to guard you from temptation and unfaithfulness in your marriage. Pray that he might give you a godly accountability partner.
