OVER FORTY-TWO MILLION abortions occur worldwide every year.[1] That’s 115,000 individuals created in the image of God who are killed every single day. It’s no wonder that, for Christians, this issue brings up feelings of sadness, anger, and, given the size of the problem, helplessness. We must depend on God as we respond to abortion.
Scripture tells us that God has a special relationship with the unborn, for he has created these precious children, and he knows them intimately. It’s only natural, then, that God’s people would be concerned for the well-being of the unborn. We must speak up for those who have no voice and work for their protection. At the same time, we must minister to mothers considering abortion and point them to the hope that can only be found in Christ. We need God’s Spirit to apply God’s Word to our hearts so that we demonstrate both courage and compassion as we engage this issue.
