AS WE STAND against injustice, it’s easy to become angry with those who perpetrate evil. When it comes to those who practice and promote sexual immorality, for example, our reaction is sometimes one of disgust. While we should feel a sense of anger as we see the destructive effects of sin, we cannot forget that those caught in sin are the very people we’re trying to reach with the gospel.
Were it not for God’s grace, we too would be caught in any number of sins. God did not save us because we were more wise or obedient than others; he saved us out of sheer mercy. How then can we refuse to extend that mercy to others? And in light of the undeserved physical blessings we have received—food, family, shelter, protection, etc.—how can we not give generously to those in need? God blesses his people so that they will be a blessing. Compassion and generosity toward our neighbors are fruits of the gospel.
