Chapter Four: The Benefits of Meditation
You may not be aware of it now, but meditation has many benefits. We have already mentioned a few but there are a lot more that we haven’t. For example, when you meditate, you become very self-sufficient and can start to use something you may not have used for a while. Intuition is that trust in yourself that people seem to have put to one side these days. You will trust your instincts because your instincts are something you become more aware of.
There is something very special about meditating on a regular basis because the other thing that happens is that you remember things better. I think the reason this happens is because you have more space to think about things and have less clutter in your mind.
Your blood pressure goes down and your heartbeat slows when you meditate but you also find that you are more capable of getting rid of aches and pains because the posture that you use for meditation is something you carry on afterwards. With your back straight, you tend to have less problems with mobility and you are able to breathe in a better way.
Deep breathing has another benefit as well. When you breathe in the way you usually do when you meditate, your sympathetic nervous system works better. That means you don’t feel extremes of heat and cold and oxygen that you breathe gets to all the right places in the body. People normally only use about a third of their lung capacity and all of this extra breathing practice will help you to stop having cramps and to feel more balanced in your life in general.
