SHIPWRECK COAST

The coastline from Cape Otway to Portland in south-west Victoria is known as the Shipwreck Coast. There are 638 known shipwrecks along this stretch of rugged coast, although only around 240 of them have been discovered. This treacherous coastline is marred by hidden reefs, shifting sand bars, strong currents and rips and wildly unpredictable gale-force storms.
