“I
’LL STAY HERE,” said Krishna: “You go to Radha,
and say things about me that will appease her;
Then bring her to me.”
5.1
And so, Radha’s friend went to her and spoke:
BREEZING SOUTHERN sandal-scents,
desire’s in the air;
As blossoms burst in bountiful bloom,
lovers apart feel only despair;
In your absence, my friend,
festooned with forest flowers,
he woefully awaits you. Refrain
Freezing moonbeams are blazing rays,
and so it seems he dies;
The volley of Love’s arrows
torments him and he sighs;
In your absence, my friend,
festooned with forest flowers,
he woefully awaits you.
Seizing his ears so as not to hear
the humming hordes of buzzing bees;
Night after night, bereft without you,
he suffers with heart dis-ease;
In your absence, my friend,
festooned with forest flowers,
he woefully awaits you.
