“The blazing sun has set now, as should your perversity;
The darkness of night deepens, and with it
Krishna’s passion;
My pleas are as doleful as cuckoos’ cries;
There’s no point in waiting any longer, innocent girl—
now is the moment for the tryst.”
Once there was a couple, a husband and wife,
who were both intent on having an illicit affair.
They each snuck out to meet their lover
in the dark of night:
They embraced, then kissed, then scratched their paramour,
and then made tumultuous love, and were very pleased.
But then, when they spoke, at once each recognized
the other’s voice—
they had made love to one another unwittingly!
Their pleasure must have become tinged with
embarrassment.*
Wouldn’t you think so?
“Gazing apprehensively at the dark pathway,
stepping slowly, stopping momentarily at each tree,
Though your legs are nervously trembling with love,
somehow you’ll make your way to the secret rendezvous.
Once he sees you arrive, lovely lady, let’s hope
the lucky man is gratified!”
