May Jaya·deva’s song about Krishna being pleased
Ensure that the evils of this age are at last appeased.
Some lucky girl is playing in love with Krishna.
“The moon, reminding me of Krishna’s lotus face
made pale by separation from me, eases my anguish;
But the same moon, at the same time, being Love’s ally,
fills my heart with the misery of being in love.”
Song Fifteen
THE FAIR GIRL’s ardor shines on her face
as her lips pucker up for a kiss;
And, thrilled, with musk he paints a lunar mark
upon the forehead of that miss;
In the forest, on the banks of the Yamuna,
a triumphant Krishna now takes delight. Refrain
He adorns with amaranth, bright like lightning,
the storm clouds of her thick dark hair,
Those locks a deer park, round her face all aflutter,
as Love goes hunting there;
In the forest, on the banks of the Yamuna,
a triumphant Krishna now takes delight.
