9.10
“When your lover is gentle, you’re rough;
when he’s submissive, you’re obstinate;
When he’s passionate, you’re antagonistic;
when he looks up to you, you look down on him;
Given your perversity, dear girl, it’s no wonder
the cool beams of the moon burn like the sun’s hot rays,
That sandal balm’s a bane, frost a fire,
and games that should be amusing only torture you.”
The cowherd Krishna’s foot is a lotus:
The hosts of ebullient gods in heaven, led by Indra,
bow down in reverence to that foot,
and the sapphires in their crowns are the bees
on that lotus;
The Heavenly Ganges streams freely from that foot,
and nectar flows from that lovely lotus;
Let us worship that lotus-foot for redemption from our sins!
