“Long has he been obsessed with you;
weary-worn and love-inflamed,
He thirsts for the nectars of your luscious berry lips;
so adorn his lap for a little while.
How can you be so ambivalent
toward the man who worships your feet
Like a slave purchased with but a pittance of your wealth,
your beauty, a trinket no more than the raising of a brow?”
Her eyes eager for Krishna, Radha, at once excited
and nervous,
Entered his bower with her anklets jingle-jangling.
Song Twenty-two
SHE GAZED AT Krishna:
Long had he longed to make love to her,
his one true love, his only miss;
Love had made himself at home in him,
and his face beamed bounteous bliss. Refrain
Just as the moon churns up the waves of
a turbulent ocean,
So Radha’s face stirred up in him tides of
amorous emotion.
