THE PROPHET

It’s springtime and I’m wearing rain boots.

I never put much thought into it, really

I’ve always been different

I’m like a Raider’s jersey

Shorts

And rain boots.

My hair big flying natural and free just like my soul these days

Just like my dreams

Just like the Holy Spirit working on my insides tearing down and restoring me

I’m wearing rain boots in the winter

I’m like ripped dreams, Che Gorilla shirt,

and my hair braided straight back focused and tight

just like my eyes

just like my steps,

just like my words only speaking when Jesus prompts.

I’m like rain boots in the summertime

Bright colored ethnic print halter top mini-dress

Hair locked up just like my fears

Just like my pass

Just like all insecurities.

I never put much thought into them

The rain boots, I mean

The prophet says I’m in expectations

Says I’ve been banging on Heaven’s door for years now, crying out

Says I’m expecting some big things

Says I’m prepared

I smile and nod my head in agreement

My steps in my rain boots are ordered and filled with

Expectation.
